Mindfulness involves paying attention, on purpose, in the present moment, non-judgmentally.

Be Well!

In our hectic lives, constant mental chatter about to-do lists, past concerns, and future anxieties prevents us from being fully present. The documented benefits of mindfulness include stress reduction and increased overall happiness. Bringing our attention to the here and now contributes to improved physical and mental health, addressing issues such as stress, heart disease, blood pressure, chronic pain, sleep problems, gastrointestinal difficulties, depression, anxiety, substance abuse, eating disorders, and relationship conflicts.

For newcomers, the Introduction to Mindfulness Class offers insights into mindfulness benefits. Those with existing practices can explore advanced trainings on specific topics or join an ongoing meditation group.

Introduction to Mindfulness

This is an 8 week introductory, skill building class that teaches the basics of mindfulness. Each class is designed to develop concrete skills in a variety of mindfulness techniques including: understanding the physiological impacts of mindfulness, breath-work and meditation, sensory mindfulness techniques, body scanning, mindful eating, self compassion, mindful movement, and mindful self expression. These 8 mindfulness skills help build resiliency, increase our feelings of self control and acceptance, reduce stress, depression, and anxiety, strengthen immune systems, and improve concentration and overall wellbeing. This class is a pre-requisite for many of the other classes.

Mindfulness Based

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

This group focuses on helping participants make a change in their relationship to their thoughts, feelings, and bodily sensations. Participants learn to recognize their habitual patterns of thinking, feeling, and sensing. They also learn how to challenge their automatic reactions to these experiences. Participants learn to accept these events as a predictable part of the human experience of the mind and body and develop a response that is appropriate to the situation rather than reacting to the unpleasant or unwanted experience. Step by step instructions are provided for integrating meditation, mindful movement, and cognitive interventions during each group session. Significant mindfulness homework is part of the program.

Self-Esteem Group

Fake It Till You Make It

Participants learn to recognize current patterns of destructive thinking and how this pattern of thought inhibits them from actualizing their “true self.” Group members develop an understanding of their core beliefs and goals and identify the obstacles that stand in the way of achieving them. Members develop skills to quiet their inner negative dialogue and learn to develop self compassion and self confidence. Through the use of mindfulness, visualization techniques, and mindful self compassion, patients develop an understanding of their actualized self. Participants learn that their self concept indeed has an impact on their ability to achieve their goals and aspirations. “The body achieves what the mind believes,” so feed it positive thoughts!

Mindful Eating

In this group participants will bring mindful attention to who we are, what we eat, when we eat, where we eat, how we eat and why we eat. Participants develop an awareness of how eating is nourishing for both the mind and the body. By learning to slow down and be truly present with their food, participants will develop new patterns of eating behaviors, from food choice to food preparation and consumption.
